Question: How to upgrade from SQL Server Express Edition to Standard (Runtime) Edition?


Answer:

Step 1: Browse to your SQL Server Standard Edition Setup folder and double click on “setup.exe”.

Note: You may contact our dealer to get the SQL Server Standard Edition setup file. There will be charges on the purchase of Standard edition.

Step 2: In SQL Server Installation Center, navigate to Maintenance and then click on Edition Upgrade.

Step 3: Click on Show details to investigate the error if there is any failed rules. Otherwise, click on OK.

Step 4: Click on Show details to investigate the error if there is any failed rules. Otherwise, click on Next.

Step 5: Enter the Product Key and click on Next.

Note: You will get the Product Key after you purchased the SQL Server Standard Edition from us.

Step 6: Check the checkbox of I accept the license terms and then click on Next.

Step 7: Select the specific SQL instance that you want to upgrade (e.g. A2006) and then click on Next.

Step 8: Click on Show details to investigate the error if there are any failed rules. Otherwise, click on Next.

Step 9: Click on Upgrade and wait for upgrading process.

Step 10: Click on Close to finish the upgrade process.

Your specific SQL Server Instance is now upgraded to Standard Edition.

There are 2 methods you can use to check the SQL Server Edition.

Method 1: Check the SQL Server Edition using AutoCount.

Go to Help > About AutoCount Accounting.
