Troubleshooting: Preview Barcode report - There are invalid characters in the text

Question : My ItemCode is “ABc123”and I have set itemcode as my barcode. When I preview the barcode report, it shows an error “ There are invalid characters in the text”. Why?

Version : 1.8 / 1.9 / 2.0


Possible Reason :

The barcode was set with wrong ‘Character Set’.


Solution :

When item code is ABc123, its character set should be Charset B. But in system report, the default Character Set is Charset A.

1) To change character set, click on the Barcode, go to Property Grid > Symbology > Character Set, change it to Charset B, and save as a new report name.


2) Try to preview the report.


Remark :

By default AutoCount uses the symbology of Code 128 and AutoCount will use this as an example. Code 128 consists of 3 set of character set – Charset A, Charset B and Charset C. The differences of these 3 character sets are as below:

Charset A – Supports ASCII characters 00 to 95 (0-9, A-Z, Control Codes), Special Characters and FNC 1-4.

Charset B – Supports ASCII characters 32 to 127 (0-9, A-Z, a-z), Special Characters and FNC 1-4.

Charset C – Supports “00-99″ and certain Special Characters.

Note : Please seek assistance from your software dealer if the problem still persists after performing the steps as above.
