GL: What is the function of Show Double Entry Account Description at Ledger

Question: What is the function of ‘Show Double Entry Account Description’ at Ledger? Having enabled it, why do some of the accounts posting in ledger shows few separate lines?

Without enabled ‘Show Double Entry Account Description’

Ledger Posting as usual, the figure shows amount exactly you keyed.


Enabled ‘Show Double Entry Account Description’

When enabled, Ledger shows additional column ‘DE Acc. Desc.’ and here will show the double entry account description.


For CAPITAL account, Debited 200, the related double entry account refers to Credited account: CIMB BANK account 200.

For RETAINED EARNING account, Debited 300, the related double entry account refers to Credited account: CIMB BANK account 300.

For CIMB BANK account, Credited 200 and 300, the related Debited accounts are CAPITAL account 200 and RETAINED EARNING account 300. Total up 500.


Result in Ledger

CIMB BANK account, shown in 2 separate lines as it involves two double entry accounts.




Without enabled ‘Show Double Entry Account Description’

Ledger Posting as usual, the figure shows amount exactly as you keyed in.


Enabled ‘Show Double Entry Account Description’


Result in Ledger

ACCRUALS account, will show 3 separate lines as it involves 3 double entry accounts.
UPKEEP OF MOTOR VEHICLE account, will show 2 separate lines as it involves 2 double entry accounts.
